La Gelatessa

Through the power of TikTok , La Gelatessa , a Glasgow foodie gelato spot, has quickly gained a repu tation as a go-to spot for authentic, handcrafted gelato. Situated in the southside, t his Italian-inspired gem offers a variety of indulgent flavors that cater to both the adventurous and the classic dessert lover.  After seeing my For You Page in undated with La Gelatessa reviews, we decided it would be best to go at hopefully a quieter time. We went on a sunny mid-week afternoon and even then, had to wait our turn. We perused the menu , with reasonable prices we all decided to go for two scoops. I ended up going more classic with Bacio Bianco . With my friends opting for more exciting flavours such as, Lemon Ice Teas S orbet, M ascarpone and Plum Ripple , and 2 scoops of Raspberry and Lime Sorbet.   Whilst waiting we got chatting to the exceptionally friendly staff, who explained that real authentic Italian gelato shouldn’t be displayed, hence all the gelat o bein...

Ho Lee Fook Glasgow

  • Since opening in the
Barrowlands in June 2023, Ho Lee Fook has become a not so hidden gem since going viral on TikTok last summer. Serving primarily Chinese food with a twist out of a food shack on the corner of Macfarlane Street in the East end of Glasgow. Despite me and my friends visiting just after their opening time at 5pm on a Friday, there was already a queue wrapped round the corner. Between the 3 of us we got the Biangbiang Noodz (Taiwanese Noodles with their special sauce and veg), A chicken katsu curry with boiled rice, and one of their most popular items, the Tonkatsu Sando a “Labour of Love” Braised pork belly sandwiched between soft fluffy white bread with a kewpie mayo and tonkatsu sauce. All of that alongside a portion of Salt and Chilli chips and 3 bottles of water came to £42. Even with the food shack being manned by only 2 people and a queue that felt a mile long, our order was called for collection after 10 minutes.

  • It’s well known that tiktok food reviewers have a tendency to hype up food spots with the hope of receiving free invites to the restaurant, but I can genuinely say as we all tucked into our food Ho Lee Fook was not all hype at all. Everything we ordered was piping hot, bursting with flavor and immediately we could understand why people had been raving about this spot for ages. The chicken katsu and Noodles were both amazing, but the standout was the tonkatsu, unlike anything I had ever tried before the meat was melt in your mouth texture. If you’re about Glasgow looking for a quick bite, Ho Lee Fook should 100% be at the top of your list.
