La Gelatessa

Through the power of TikTok , La Gelatessa , a Glasgow foodie gelato spot, has quickly gained a repu tation as a go-to spot for authentic, handcrafted gelato. Situated in the southside, t his Italian-inspired gem offers a variety of indulgent flavors that cater to both the adventurous and the classic dessert lover.  After seeing my For You Page in undated with La Gelatessa reviews, we decided it would be best to go at hopefully a quieter time. We went on a sunny mid-week afternoon and even then, had to wait our turn. We perused the menu , with reasonable prices we all decided to go for two scoops. I ended up going more classic with Bacio Bianco . With my friends opting for more exciting flavours such as, Lemon Ice Teas S orbet, M ascarpone and Plum Ripple , and 2 scoops of Raspberry and Lime Sorbet.   Whilst waiting we got chatting to the exceptionally friendly staff, who explained that real authentic Italian gelato shouldn’t be displayed, hence all the gelat o bein...

The Big Taquero

  • Although it might be a bit far reaching to call The Big Taquero (A Mexican food van) a Glasgow street eat considering its at least 30 mins from the centre of town, however since it's been flooding Glasgow foodie Instagram, I feel I can get away with including it here. To say The Big Taquero is unassuming would be an understatement. Situated within an industrial estate in Dumbarton, the food truck seems to have pulled a big crowd by the time we got there. Despite this, there's a seating and firepit area, we could sit in whilst waiting for our food. They don’t have a set menu and are constantly advertising new items, so after checking the menu we landed on their, Jalapeno hash browns, Birria Beef Tacos and Spicy Chicken wings and Fish Tacos. Although I will say the food took some time to prepare, I can easily see why, through the van window there's only 1 guy slaving over a hot stove, making everything fresh to order. They call our order, and we tuck in. As huge Mexican fans, the birria tacos are the first thing me and my friends go for, they come with a consommé, which I can best describe as a tomato and chilli broth with meat added flavor to dip our tacos into. We could unanimously agree that these were by far some of the best birria tacos we have had in and around Glasgow. The rest of the food was also amazing, even the Jalapeno hash browns shocked us with how tasty they were after being skeptical. Overall, we couldn’t recommend the big taquero anymore, and it is easily worth the 30-minute drive from Glasgow if you're looking for genuinely delicious Mexican food.
